Algae — Key Points
Chlorophyll-a is present in all algae; accessory pigments vary (chlorophyll-b, c, d, fucoxanthin, phycoerythrin, phycocyanin).
Chlorophyceae (green algae): stored food = starch; cellulose cell wall; 2 equal flagella.
Phaeophyceae (brown algae): fucoxanthin pigment; laminarin + mannitol stored; 2 unequal flagella.
Rhodophyceae (red algae): phycoerythrin; floridean starch; no motile stages; reproduce vegetatively.
NEET favourite: Match algae class → stored food → flagella type → pigment. Make a 3-column table for quick revision.
